The Johns Hopkins K-to-R Transition Program This special interactive session features speed reviews of aims pages by panels of funded investigators and reviewers. Submit your aims page or come as an observer – all are welcome! A limited number of aims pages will be accepted for review, based on funding mechanism. Aims pages will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis; however, priority will be given to faculty members submitting for the February Deadline. Additional Specific Aims Speed Review sessions will be offered on April 10, 2017 in advance of the NIH June deadline, and again on August 1, 2017, in advance of the October deadline. RSVPs will open on Thursday November 10th at 11am Wednesday, November 9th 10:00 am to 3:30 pm SCHOLARLY PUBLISHING SYMPOSIUM Where: Mountcastle Auditorium, PCTB & the Welch Library John Hopkins University and Elsevier will offer the Johns Hopkins research community a Scholarly Publishing Symposium. The symposium will feature multiple sessions designed to provide a better understanding of scholarly publishing, including insight into how to better position your papers for acceptance. Elsevier publishers will lead the sessions with support from Johns Hopkins faculty editors. The sessions will underscore the distinct perspectives, experiences and recommendations from experts within the publishing industry and those who serve as reviewers in their fields of study. Sessions will include a Scholarly Publishing panel discussion, a seminar outlining topics and trends affecting Scholarly Publishing and Higher Education; and four publishing break-out sessions, aligned with Biomedical, Public Health, Biomedical Engineering and Nursing disciplinary concentrations. Attendees are welcome to join any or all of the sessions. When you register you will have the option to sign up for the entire day or for individual sessions. Registration is critical as some sessions have limited availability and we need to plan lunch in a fiscal and resource effective manner. Previously, he served as the Intellectual Property Advisor at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, which is part of the National Institutes of Health, and as the Acting Director of the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Department of Commerce. He has 15 years of patent law experience both as a Primary Examiner at the USPTO and as a patent agent and attorney at law firms. He has a law degree from The George Washington University; a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Maryland, College Park; and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Rochester. This workshop give tips on how to answer the dreaded question "What salary are you seeking?" and provides examples of what to say when negotiating a job offer. 12:20 PM Elevator Pitches: An effective elevator pitch is a key networking tool. This workshop will provide a frameowrk for developing your eevator pitch, provide examples and include time for you to practice your elevator pitch. 12:40 PM Data Science Careers This workshop will highlight careers in Data Science, what skills employers are looking for and training opportunities.
